Quilling

Thursday Crafts at the NBM

The New Brunswick Museum (Saint John) will be hosting Thursday Night Craft workshops throughout the winter months again this year and PaperQuilling is again included. I’ve posted the schedule and details I received from Rose Poirier [of the NBM] on PaperQuilling.ca under Exhibits and Demonstrations
If you live in the Saint John area, this an an excellent opportunity to meet other quillers and learn some new quilling techniques.

Quilled Cross - Purple

Here is another Quilled Cross I just completed in a 12inx15in shadow box frame. I used a purple color scheme with Stardream “Punch” textpaper for the background, and the border quilling using purple, grape, punch, raspberry, lilac, orchid, and white.

You can access the instructions at PaperQuilling.ca

New Quilling Gallery

I’ve created a new Gallery for Miniature Quilling and added pictures of my first 3D project which I called “Lady in Red”.

Accord Quilling Calendar Index

I’ve created some handy indexes to the Quilling Patterns published in the 2007 & 2008 Accord Paper Quilling Design a Day Calendars.

They are posted on the Resource Links at PaperQuilling.ca

Various Views are available for you to browse the calendar indexes – by Designer, by Date, or by Pattern Name

Quilled Clock

Quilled Clock

Supplies Required:

  • Wood Plate (9” – 10”)
  • Clock Kit
  • White Satin Enamel Paint
  • Quilling Paper in 1/8”, 1/4”, 3/8” widths – various colors
  • Glue

Tools:

  • Power Drill
  • Quilling Tool

This was a fun project I made for my Mother’s Birthday.
Started with a 9” or 10” wood plate. Drill a hole in the center just large enough for the post of the Clock Kit to fit through.
Paint both sides of the wood plate with 1 coat of white satin enamel paint. After drying for 1 hour (or until dry to touch) spray the plate with 2 coats of Alabaster FleckStone Finish allowing 1 hour drying time between coats (or until dry to touch).
After completely dry install the clock works according to directions on package. The clockworks kit I used included stickers for all 12 hours but I only used 4 (12, 3, 6, 9)and used 6” graperolls for the remainder hours

Quilled Calendars

Quilled Calendars

Here is another idea for a long lasting gift for that special person. For the past few years, I have been making Quilled Calendars for family & friends. The calendar templates are easily created using many software packages – the one I use is Microsoft Publisher.

Print the calendar on heavy cardstock – 110# or higher. I use a one-hole punch to make a hanging hole at the top and then add quilling to the header.

You can quill anything on them, co-ordinating colors to match decorating schemes. Below are a few examples of calendars I have made.

The North American Quilling Guild (NAQG) is a group of enthusiastic and dedicated quillers with one mission: to promote the art of quilling and ensure that it is passed on to future generations.

The NAQG was officially formed in 2000, and membership is open to quillers of all levels and quilling enthusiasts worldwide
